What am I to do? I’m not ready to get flattened like a newt under a horses hoof by Emerald’s father. I talked to Emerald about it with Jeeves’ advice. Since she didn’t want to marry without telling her father first (but she says she wouldn’t be swayed by whatever he says) she said she’d stay in the inn nearby. But, just for safety’s sake, I’ve already begun to move my newts into the special cool room that I designated. It was a study, but instead it’s the hibernation room for the newts. Then I’d only have to get Julian, Marie and Jonathon ready to move.

I hope things don’t go wrong. I have to admit, Bertie and Jeeves’ description of my prospective father in law made me wonder if I just married the daughter of that creep Spode.

On newt related news, Julian is healthy. He likes the earthworms I collect the best. Ever seen a newt eat earthworms? He enjoys them better than the crickets and larvae that I gather. But if I have to move him, it’s going to be harder. If I have to move him, it means that the meeting with Mr. Stoker has not gone well. And have you ever had to move three tanks of newts across the country? Or worse still into the continent. I’ve done it before, and it’s not my favorite pastime. Besides, nothing can beat Lincolnshire and the country. And if I bring those three (because they aren’t ready to hibernate yet so I can’t just leave them at home.) then I’d have to bring at least two tanks. Great Crested Newts sometimes are cannibals. And I don’t want to risk Julian eating Jonathon or Marie.

Julian! [Sep. 5th, 2006|06:18 pm]
[Current Mood | cheerful]

Just found a small Great Crested Newt yesterday in the pond near my house. Found it a nice tank. Luckily I had one left over after I let Damon go. And I was lucky it was big enough. I'll name this one Julian, because with it's crests it looks like a Julian.

It's only in it's second stage, which was what made it a great find. Not many Great Crested Newts in this part of england. They aren't very well documented either. Well, at least not in juvenile stage. Probably because of them going away from their water homes for a year or so. But now, if I change his diet just so, perhaps I can find out their favorite food! I'll be recognized by the Newt Enthusiasts of England for that.

I need to sketch him while he's still though. Proper documentation of my newt friends is key to keeping them happy.
